  • 2017/2018

Speaker:

Raffaele Perego, National Research Council of Italy

Date:

Wednesday, April 4, 2018 - 13:00 to 14:30

Location:

Aula Faedo (C-29), ISTI-CNR, Area della Ricerca CNR, via Moruzzi 1, Pisa

An increasing number of information systems leverage data mining and machine learning techniques to deal with the complexity and scale of big data. This talk will present a brief overview of the research activities conducted by HPC lab @ ISTI-CNR researchers. We focus on addressing interesting, often yet unsolved problems, related to the design, implementation and deployment of information systems that scale far larger than most other systems and can effectively and efficiently provide in near real-time answers to complex queries by possibly using a limited amount of computational resources. We gather large volumes of direct or indirect evidence of relationships of interest, and we apply data mining and learning algorithms in order to extract accurate models to: rank results of queries, predict the evolution of complex phenomena, classify data items, provide recommendations.
